What is the difference between Whereby and Coommit?
Whereby sells two products. Whereby Meetings gives you video rooms in the browser, each with its own link that doesn't change unless you change it, according to Whereby's help center. Whereby Embedded is an API and SDK for companies that want video calls inside their own website or app.
Coommit gives each client one persistent room. The video call happens inside it, next to the session materials: Figma files, Google Drive documents, PDFs, YouTube videos and a shared web browser that everyone can use at once. When the call ends, the room and its canvas stay available for the next session.
So the question is what you want to keep from one session to the next: a familiar meeting link, or the room where the work happened.
Where does Whereby win?
In five places, clearly:
- Frictionless guest links. Whereby says guests need no downloads and no login, and calls run in the browser on desktop and mobile. Clients who struggle with technology get a link, type their name and join, or knock if the room is locked.
- Embedded rooms and an API. If you run a coaching or therapy platform, Whereby Embedded lets you put video calls inside your own product. Its Embedded pricing lists a free Explore tier with up to 2,000 participant minutes a month, and a Build plan at $9.99 a month plus $0.004 per participant minute beyond the 2,000 included. Coommit doesn't list an embeddable video SDK.
- A free plan. Whereby's Free plan gives you 1 host, 1 room, up to 4 attendees and meetings up to 30 minutes, per Whereby's Meetings pricing. Coommit has a 7-day trial with no card, then no free plan.
- Recording that stays on your device. Pro and Business include unlimited recording. According to Whereby's recording guide, recordings are stored locally in your browser and never leave your device, which some therapists and coaches will value. The trade-off: recording works only in Chrome or Chromium on a desktop or laptop, and Whereby can't recover a lost recording.
- Price. Whereby Pro costs $10.99 a month and Business costs $13.99 per host a month with a minimum of 3 hosts, both shown with monthly billing. Whereby says annual billing saves 17%. Coommit costs $29 per user a month, $23 billed yearly or $19 on a 2-year plan.
Whereby also includes room lock and knocking on every plan, so a late client waits at the door instead of walking into another session. Pro adds breakout groups and custom branding.
Where does a Coommit room win for recurring client sessions?
In continuity. Whereby is built around the call, and it is very good at the call. Coommit is built around the room that the call happens in.
- The room stays after the call. The canvas keeps your notes, drawings and embedded materials, so session six opens where session five ended. On Whereby, files shared in the chat are removed when the session ends.
- Materials inside the call, not beside it. Figma files, Google Drive documents, PDFs, YouTube and a shared browser sit on the canvas while you talk. Whereby has good in-call integrations for Google Drive, Trello, Miro and YouTube, and the documents stay in those tools after the call.
- Session templates. Rooms start from templates such as Coaching session, GROW canvas and Wheel of life.
- A recap you can act on. After the call, the built-in AI writes a recap with the decisions and the tasks, which you can send to Slack or Notion.
- Bookings that create the room. A Calendly booking creates a Coommit room and invites the attendee. Whereby's Google Calendar integration inserts your room link into events.
- Transcription, in two languages. Calls can be recorded with live transcription that detects English and French only. Whereby Meetings has no built-in closed captioning and suggests Chrome's Live Caption instead, while Whereby Embedded sells transcriptions by the minute.
- Free guests. Clients join a Coommit room from a link with no account and no download, and you pay only for your hosts.

How much does each cost for a solo coach or a small agency?
As listed in September 2026, in US dollars:
- A solo coach on Whereby Pro pays $10.99 a month, billed monthly. On Coommit, the same coach pays $29 billed monthly, $23 a month billed yearly ($276 a year) or $19 a month on a 2-year plan.
- A three-host agency on Whereby Business pays at least $41.97 a month (3 hosts at $13.99, billed monthly). Three Coommit users pay $87 a month billed monthly, or $69 a month on annual billing.
Whereby is cheaper, and we won't pretend otherwise. You pay more for Coommit because the room holds the work between sessions, which only matters if your sessions depend on materials. If they don't, Whereby Pro is the better buy.
Whereby vs Zoom for client sessions: which is better?
If you are choosing between the two classic options for client calls:
- Free plans. Whereby Free allows 4 attendees for up to 30 minutes. Zoom's free Basic plan allows 100 participants for up to 40 minutes, per Zoom's meetings page.
- Paid plans. Whereby Pro costs $10.99 a month. Zoom Workplace Pro costs $16.99 per user a month billed monthly, with meetings up to 30 hours, unlimited AI note-taking and 10 GB of cloud storage.
- Guests. Whereby is browser-based, with no download or login needed for guests.
- Recording and notes. Whereby Pro records locally in Chrome on desktop. Zoom Pro adds AI note-taking and cloud storage.

Which is better for therapy sessions?
For most therapists, Whereby. Whereby's Meetings page says it is GDPR compliant and ISO 27001 certified, and its homepage says its products are GDPR and HIPAA compliant. Its Embedded pricing lists HIPAA compliance as a $16.99 a month add-on on the Build plan. Room lock and knocking keep one client from walking into another's session, and local recordings stay on your device.
Coommit doesn't list HIPAA compliance, so if your practice needs it, choose a tool that does and ask for the paperwork before your first session. Coommit fits coaching and consulting sessions built around exercises, plans and shared documents.
How do you move a recurring client into a Coommit room?
Start with one client, and keep Whereby for everything else until the room proves itself.
- Create a room for that client from the Coaching session template, or from the GROW canvas or Wheel of life if your method uses them.
- Before the next session, put the materials on the canvas: the Google Drive document you share, the PDF worksheet, the video you assign.
- Send the room link, or connect Calendly so each booking creates the room and invites your client.
- After the session, read the recap and send the decisions and tasks to Notion or Slack.
- At the next session, open the same room. Compare how much time you spend finding last month's materials, then decide.

Who should not pick Coommit?
Coommit is the wrong pick if:
- Your sessions are conversations without shared materials. Whereby Pro at $10.99 a month is the better buy.
- You are a therapist or clinician who needs HIPAA compliance.
- You need a free plan for the long term.
- You need transcripts in languages other than English and French.
- You want to embed video calls inside your own platform. Whereby Embedded is built for that.
